Technical information about this website's accessibility

The Department for Education is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the following non-compliances (and/or) the following exemptions.

Non-accessible content

The content is non-accessible for the following reason(s):

This would be confusing for screen reader users trying to navigate this page. When tabbing through the links on the page, the screen reader would just announce “change link’. This does not give them enough information about the link, and which answer they are going to change. (WCAG: 2.4.4)

  • Links in error summaries don't move focus to the relevant element: Many of the error pages throughout the service do not allow users to activate the link within the error summary to move focus into the relevant element. This issue was mostly discovered when errors were triggered for radio button elements.
  • Aria-describedby used for details tab: The information in the details tab is associated with the ‘Add an MPAN’ and ‘Estimated annual electricity usage’ inputs using aria-describedby. This means that all the information that is visually hidden within the details tab is announced by the screen reader. This makes the inputs very verbose.
  • Page titles not unique: The pages tiles across all pages are not unique and do not match the heading level 1 of the page. All page titles have the title of ‘Buy for your school’, this title is not relevant for most pages and does not explain the purpose of the page. The page title also lacks the second part of the page title which should relate to the wider service. Page titles are also not updated to include ‘error:’ at the start of the page title when errors are triggered on the page.
  • Redundant entry - data not retained when partially filled: When entering just the month within the date input and selecting save and continue, the data is not retained when the page refreshes and triggers the error message. (WCAG: 3.3.7)
